Tihu College came into existence on July 4, 1963 in a small rural town of Tihu, which was then an agro-based centre of local commerce for the greater Tihu- Sarthebari- Bajali -Dharmapur- Simlaguri area. Under the enthusiastic guidance of three noble and provident visionaries ( DR. Akshay Thakuria, Mr. Lalit Talukdar, Mr. Madhu Pathak) who are by now departed souls, it was established solely on public donation and peoples enthusiastic participation. The public of greater Tihu locality started collecting funds, for which they approached every villager, shop kipper, office and businessmen who contributed according to their capacity. After admitting many of the teething pains, overcoming many challenges, they succeeded in founding an institution of higher education in a backward, remote rural place of Assam in the early 1960s.There was an enrolment of 177 students in its 1st year PU (Arts) Class.
